Ethan Stern
Traver Gallery is proud to present, Cut Clear by Ethan Stern.
With this new exhibition, Seattle-based artist, Ethan Stern, continues to explore how his blown and carved glass sculptures can manipulate and alter light, and how he, as a sculptor, can use light itself as a medium. In a dramatic shift, Stern has opted to diverge from the color-laden forms for which he is known. By using only clear glass and a traditional glass-cutting lathe Stern has created a body of work that is utterly contemporary and unique. The flattened and intensely-carved vessel forms create a prismatic lattice of light; reflecting color from their surroundings creating surface that change dynamically with every shift in orientation. Stern's move away from adornment and toward an increasing distilled methodology highlights the essential qualities of the material and his process, and draws our attention directly to his artistic objective: creating dynamic sculptural forms that hold and activate light. These new sculptures are timeless in their directness and they are enormously successful. We are thrilled to present this exhibition in our gallery and look forward to introducing you, our collectors, to Ethan Stern's most recent body of work.
