Amie McNeel

Drawing upon "a vocabulary of forms that combine the familiar and the mysterious," McNeel's newest sculptures point to the poetic relationship between natural phenomena and our contemporary scientific life. As the artist states, the buoy and torpedo-like forms she works with "alternate between macrocosom and microcosm." They appear at once to be both mutable and mystical, conveying a "trajectory grounded in physics but experienced through imagination." Pairing familiar elements such as hand-tied knots and nuts and bolts with mysterious mirrored and luminous glass surfaces with secretive interiors, McNeel's sculptures are themselves an "unspoken poem about earthly and celestial horizons beyond reach."
