Jay Macdonell

Jay Macdonell has worked for many Pacific Northwest studios since 1992 for various artists, designers and architects as a project manager, design consultant and gaffer. He co-taught at Pilchuck Glass School with Swedish designer Ann Wahlstrom and has worked for artists such as Laura and Alessandro De Santillana, Xu Bing, Angelo Filomeno, Bruce Mau, Catherine Chalmers, and Mildred Howard. He has also taught at workshops at The Bay Area Glass institute in San Jose, Pittsburg Glass School, Espace Verre in Montreal and the Design School on the island of Bornholm, Denmark.

 

Jay is currently serving as vice president on the board of directors of the Glass Art Society and has been a visiting artist at such places as The Museum Of Glass, The Bay Area Glass Institute, The Royal Danish School of Design and Architecture and The Berengo Studio in Murano. His work is in many private and public collections such as Elton John, The Bronfman family’s Clairage Collection, The Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Foreign Affairs Canada, The Museum of Montreal and the Boston Museum of Fine Art. He was the recipient of a Canada Council for the Arts mid career research grant. Jay’s work explores botanically inspired sculptural vessel forms, mixed media sculptural work and time based video/glass installations.
