Mark Zirpel: Special Feature
MARK ZIRPEL: Three Views: In, Out and At JULY 28 - AUGUST 2
Timed to coincide with Seattle's inaugural Seattle Art Fair, Traver Gallery is excited to announce a special exhibition by sculptor Mark Zirpel. "Three Views: In, Out and At" explores notions of perception and physical experience. Light, shadow, reflection and rotation provide the means in this spacious triptych.
Mark Zirpel's work is driven by ideas and context. It is physical in its materiality and conceptually insistent. It is sculptural, installation-based, kinetic, and often explores a convergence between art and science. Combining sculptural materials, including glass, steel, and mechanical components, with physical forces such gravity, magnetism, wind, and light, Zirpel investigates the mechanisms of the world and physical experience. Mark Zirpel received a BFA from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has taught widely and exhibited regionally at such venues as Cornish College of the Arts, the Bellevue Art Museum, and the Kirkland Arts Center. He was awarded the Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship. Zirpel is currently the Dale Chihuly Endowed Chair in Glass and an Associate Professor at the University of Washington School of Art.
