Mary Fox creates work inspired by her musings on the human condition, as well as her concerns over the ever-increasing complexity and chaos of domestic and global issues.
The artist considers her blown and kiln cast goblets to be sculptural. She sees the goblet form not as a functional object, but as an archetype – the chalice is an ancient symbol of the relationship of the human body to the spiritual realm. Fox also sees the chalice as symbolizing memory, the soul, wisdom, and our connection to the Great Mother – the source of life.
